Distance Ed students can have books mailed to them from the Interlibrary Loan department. Simply set up your Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad) account using the steps below, and then request the materials you need.
Please be aware that you will be responsible for returning the books on time, for properly packing and return postage, as well as any fines assessed for late returns or damaged materials.
Set Up Your ILLiad Account
Begin by signing onto ILLiad with your myBama credentials.
Next, select User Information from the lefthand menu.
Fill out the User Information form with your personal information, including the mailing address where you want to receive your items.
Under Loan Delivery Method, choose Mail to Address.
Under Status, select Distance Education.
Once your information is up to date, you can begin requesting items.
Please be aware that if you update your address in MyBama, your address in ILLiad does NOT automatically update. You must manually enter your address into ILLiad each time you move.
Request Items
There are two methods for requesting an item: the Request Item link in Scout, or make a request directly in ILLiad.
Request Item in Scout
Once you have found a book in Scout that you'd like to have mailed to you, simply click the Request Item link in the search result.
You will be taken to the ILLiad Logon Page, where you can sign in using your myBama credentials.
On the next page, select Doc Delivery - Loan (If you only need a chapter of the book, you can request a scanned copy using these instructions). The system will automatically fill in the author and title of the book.
Under Status, select Distance Student from the drop-down menu.
This will update the Pickup location to a note indicating that delivery will be to your address listed in ILLiad.
Click Submit Request once the form is complete.
Make a Request in ILLiad
For items not in the UA Libraries Collection, you can request the book through Interlibrary loan.
Log into ILLiad. Select Loan from the left-hand menu.
Fill out the required information about the item in as much detail as possible. Use the notes field to indicate that you are a Distance student and would like the book mailed to you.
Click the Submit Request button once the form is filled out.
