The research process can seem overwhelming.  We know!  Fortunately, we have some excellent, general-purpose databases where you can start your research.

Scout is an all-in-one resource where you can search magazine articles, scholarly articles and the libraries' books and ebooks.  Start your search here.

Academic OneFile is similar to Scout; it has scholarly articles, along with more popular sources, like magazine articles. It, too, is very general and has information from various fields.

Opposing Viewpoints is another excellent resource, packed with a variety of sources on current issues and hot topics.  Use the search tool to find encyclopedia-like entries on topics.
