Dissertations and theses by UA authors published after autumn of 2009 can be found in the Dissertations and Theses at University of Alabama database.

Dissertations and theses may also be located online in the Institutional Repository (IR).

Dissertations can also be located by searching in Scout. You can use the Advanced Search interface to include the title and author name in your search, and then narrow the results to Dissertations/ Theses using the limiters on the lefthand side of the results page under Source Types.

First, select Show More.

Screen grab from Scout results page with an arrow pointing to the Show More link.

Then use the tick box to choose Dissertations/ Theses:

Screen grab of the Filter by Source Types box with the tick box for Dissertations/Theses selected.

If a dissertation is in the UA Libraries collection but is not online in the IR, you search may request a scanned electronic copy through your local library's interlibrary loan, the UA Libraries catalog, or by emailing the Libraries Archival Facility at librariesannex@ua.edu.

Any scanned dissertations and theses are then made available in the IR with the author's permission; if you are the author, please provide this permission when you email the Libraries Archival Facility with your request.

Recently published dissertations may not be available due to embargo.

If you're having trouble finding a dissertation or thesis, please let us know. We are happy to help.
