How long can I keep a book?

Answer

The amount of time that you can keep a book checked out depends on your status, and on the type of material. Information can be found at this link. Here is a quick overview:

Books and government documents:

  • Undergraduate students - 30 days, 3 renewals; 50 items total
  • Faculty - Fixed due dates of February 1, June 1, and October 1
  • Retired Faculty, Administrative and Professional Staff, Graduate Students - Fixed due dates of February 1, June 1, and October 1; all items due June 1 must be brought into the library for renewal; 250 items total
  • Staff Active & Retired, Visiting Scholar, Adjuncts, Special Faculty (ie. Geological Survey), System Employees Staff - Fixed due dates of February 1, June 1, and October 1; all items due June 1 must be brought into the library for renewal; 3 renewals; 100 items
  • Borrower's Card patrons - 30 days, 1 renewal; 5 items total

Sound recordings, DVDs, and videos:

  • Faculty - 14 days, 1 renewal, 20 sound recordings, 10 video recordings
  • Graduate students - 14 days, 1 renewal, 10 sound recordings, 6 video recordings
  • Undergraduate students - 14 days, 1 renewal, 5 sound recordings, 3 video recordings
  • Staff - 14 days, 1 renewal, 5 sound recordings, 3 video recordings
  • All other patrons - In-library use only

Bound Periodicals

  • Faculty - 5 days, 1 renewal
  • Graduate students - 5 days, 1 renewal
  • All other patrons - In-library use only
  • Current periodicals published in the last five years can only be used in-house.

Course Reserve Materials vary depending on faculty requests.

Please note that an item that you have checked out may be recalled by another user at anytime.  In that instance, you would need to return the item within 10 days of the date of the notice.
