Terms of Service

What is this?
This is an electronic reference service that provides instant answers to many frequently asked questions. It is one of several ways to contact the UA Libraries.

Who can use this service?
This service is primarily for users affiliated with the University of Alabama; however, we will answer any questions pertaining to our libraries, collections, and services.

Who staffs this service and when will I receive a response?
Librarians will answer questions submitted Monday-Friday, 8am-2pm within 3 hours (often within a few minutes). During evenings, weekends, holidays, or breaks, you may have to wait longer for a response. Our goal is to answer all questions within 24 hours. For immediate assistance during operating hours, please call the Gorgas Library Information Desk at 205-348-6047.

Are there any questions you won't answer?
We cannot provide medical or legal advice. We also can't interpret your assignments or do them for for you.


How to Ask Questions

From http://ask.lib.ua.edu or Ask a Librarian widgets:
Type your question in the search box and click "ask us." You will be directed to a question form asking for your email address. Please use your UA or Crimson email address if you have one. Complete the form and click "submit." You will receive an answer via email. To access the question form directly, go to http://www.lib.ua.edu/forms/reference-request/.

From your mobile phone:
Text your question to 205-377-0920. This number is for texting only and should not be used for phone calls. Standard texting rates apply. You will receive an answer by text message.

Via email:
Send your message to askalibrarian@ua.edu. Please use your UA or Crimson email address if you have one. You will receive an answer via email.
